St George's Chapel
Building · 1846-

St. George's Chapel, 109-112 Borough Road, is a Grade II listed Presbyterian chapel dated from 1846 which was later part of the adjacent rotary printing-press works which are now demolished. In 2006 the University planed to developed the site to host a new Primary Care Centre and Student Centre. These plans were later abandoned, with the Student Centre being instead built adjacent to Borough Road Building.

The Staff Association had its first meeting on 30 May 1960 with Mr J.D. Mellor as Chairman. There were four representatives of the teaching and library staff and two representatives of non-teaching staff on its committee. Clause 2 of its constitution noted 'the object of the Association shall be to promote within the College the professional and social welfare of its members as a whole. It shall not take any part in nor be an instrument of College Administration (CWC/1/3/1).

When the College became part of the Polytechnic of the South Bank in 1970, the Staff Association became the 'Polytechnic of the South Bank Westminster Staff Association', later becoming 'Polytechnic of the South Bank's (Westminster) Staff Association'.

Stanley Gymnasium
Building

The Stanley Gymnasium was used by female staff and students of the Borough Polytechnic Institute and was opened in November 1904. By the 1970s it was no longer used as a gymnasium and was known as Stanley Hall. It was briefly used to house the Borough Road library from 1975 until it transferred to the new library in London Road Building.

Dr Miriam Stoppard OBE, also known by her married name of Lady Hogg, is an English medical doctor, author, television presenter and advice columnist. She was made an Honorary Doctor of Science in November 1989.

The Student Advice Bureau is a Student Union Service independent from the University which provides free, confidential, impartial advice and information to current, prospective and alumni students. The Bureau is based at the University's Southwark campus and also has an office at the Havering campus.

Student Centre
Building · 2012-

The Student Centre was developed as a home for the University's non-academic student support services as well as the Students' Union. It was built in 2012 and opened to staff and students in November that year, though it was officially opened on 20 June 2013 by the University's Chancellor, Richard Farleigh. Guests at the opening ceremony included Simon Hughes MP, representatives from Hawkins\Brown, the building's architects, business partners from the Southwark community and University staff. The ceremony consisted of speeches by the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and Students' Union President along with a barbeque and student displays.

Surrey Lodge
Building

Surrey Lodge was a Halls of Residence at 1 Morton Place leased from Lambeth Council and opened in 1983. It is no longer used by the University.

Taylor, Hitesh
Person

Hitesh Tailor is an alumnus of the Polytechnic of the South Bank and sat on the Board of Governors from 2001 until 2010. In 2011 the Hitesh Tailor Annual Lecture was launched. He was made an Honorary Fellow at the ceremony.

The Technical Day School for Boys opened in September 1897 to give boys, aged 12 and above, scientific and technical training with a view to them becoming skilled workmen and artificiers. It was evacuated to Exeter during the Second World War. In 1946 it amalgamated with the Beaufoy Junior Technical School to form the Borough-Beaufoy Secondary Technical School at the Beaufoy Institute.
