In November 2010 students at London South Bank University participated in the nationwide protest against planned spending cuts to further education and an increase of the cap on tuition fees. The LSBU students protested outside Technopark and also joined the national demonstration in Central London.

'Bomberg and his Students' was an exhibition of paintings and drawings by members of the Borough Group and by some associated artists who attended Bomberg's classes at the Borough Polytechnic between 1945-1953. The exhibition was held as part of the University's centenary celebrations.

International Confectioners' Exhibition

The International Confectioners Exhibition, Dusseldorf 4-12 May 1957 was one of the largest exhibitions of its kind and featured displays of traditional confectionary products from countries in Europe. The Borough Polytechnic and the Leeds College of Technology were invited to display their produce as part of a section for Bakery Schools. The Polytechnic's Bakery and Confectionary Department was displayed by a member of staff, Miss Joan Russell who was then internationally well known for display work.

Associates were elected by the Polytechnic's Governors in recognition of honorary services rendered to the Institute for a number of years. Associates had all the benefits of membership of the Polytechnic but without the payment of fees and were presented with a certificate of Associateship.

Edward Greatrex was a clock and watch maker who worked at English Market near Dale End in Birmingham from about 1724 to about 1755. He was the son of John, a yeoman of Aston in Derbyshire, and was apprenticed in Birmingham to Peter Brown, clockmaker on 24 June 1713 for 6 years and the fee of £8. Later Edward took his own apprentice, John Walker, in 1732.

In 1722 Edward married, in his home town of Ashbourne and the following year a daughter was born. No children are recorded . Edward is known to have maintained the Welsh Cross clock, once situated in the heart of Birmingham.

Victoria Gymnasium

The Victoria Gymnasium was used by male staff and students of the Borough Polytechnic Institute. It was opened in December 1898 and was funded in part by money raised from hiring out roof space to the public for viewing Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee procession which passed down Borough Road.

Keyworth, Leonard James; Lance Corporal

Dantzic Street was renamed Keyworth Street in 1919 in memory of Lance Corporal Leonard James Keyworth who was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in France during the First World War. After his investiture at Buckingham Palace on 12 July 1915 he returned to France where he sustained wounds from which he died on 19 October 1915, aged 22 years.
